“Don’t ever say, “I’ll get you for that!” Wait for God; He’ll settle the score.” – Proverbs 20:22, The Message Translation.
Peach says: One of life’s little certainties is people will do each other wrong, on occasion. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes inadvertently the wrong is done.
As a person who follows Christ, one thing we don’t want to do is get caught up in attempts to even the score. We want to roll the hurt, that wrong over onto the Lord. And tell Him why it makes us angry, why it hurts. And then trust in HIM to make things right for you in His best way, in His best time. If WE hold onto it, if we grudge, if we choose to just keep the hurt and ‘show them’ what’s up, by giving them the cold shoulder, or giving them a piece of our mind, we not only greatly increase our stress, we also increase our likelihood of growing a root of bitterness, which the Bible warns us particularly to be careful not to do. If we try to ‘even things up’ on our own, not only will it never be as satisfying as if we let God handle it, but, it will prevent us from walking in peace, another thing which is crucial for us. Peace is a weapon against the world, the peace that God gives us that is. We can’t afford to surrender or compromise our peace.
Trusting the Lord to vindicate us, lets us walk in forgiveness, walk in the peace of God, and go about our assignment. Doesn’t make us doormats, or victims. Don’t confuse faith in God to vindicate you, in trusting Him to make things right for your sake, don’t confuse this with being taken advantage of. Rather, it is a chosen benefit of covenant with God. Giving you much needed relief!
There were so many great parts to Proverbs 20, but this one spoke the loudest to me today! Hope you enjoyed it!
Love!
