Dunno

Batman says:

I will preface this post with saying that it’s probably going to ramble and make NO sense at all…

New Year, hmmm ok well it’s not like we have a choice about staying in the old one, so here’s hopin y’all enjoy this one. Funny thing, the passage of time, sometimes it goes fast, sometimes excruciatingly slow, but it always passes. Sometimes I feel 800 and others 12 (Peach says I always act 12) but in the great scheme of things I age like everyone else. Time is supposed to help us grow wiser and learn from past mistakes and victories, but some don’t learn at all it seems. I for one seem to repeat mistakes numerous times before they sink in and I try stuff a different way.

Christmas is gone and I’m saddened a little, I like seeing the joy on the faces of people that get what they hoped for or get unexpected, but welcome gifts. Funny how watching the joy others get, makes a genuine person just as happy.

New Years Eve, everyone and their brother around here launches fireworks, from dark till who knows, and it is cool to watch and see. No apologies to those who move here from somewhere else and then complain about the noise scaring their pets…go back where you were and take your pets, one person’s trying to change the way 50 have always done, is kinda self centered, don’t ya think? (My post so I can say stuff like that till Peach over rules me 😬). One thing time hasn’t fixed, I am still frightened of Peach 😂😂, j/k but I am frightened I may disappoint her.

Ever wonder where stuff went over the years? I do, all the time, like where the heck did my patience go? I used to be sooo patient with everything, now it’s like calm then instant irritation. Or where did skinny me go? It’s like this big grumpy guy ate me and I’m trapped in him, trying to get out but liking peaches’s punkin pie too much. Socks, that’s easy, the washing machine eats them, end of story.

Bought a book the other day, that in itself isn’t unusual we do that quite often, this one claimed it would improve my photography skills. I’m always willing to learn to be a better photographer and I figure this fella must know a bit as he’s graduated from the New England School of Photography, been on tv shows has his own business and so on. So I fork out a few dollars and start reading…impass.. what is it about college educated people who want to teach people things, always talk at such a high level of expertise that the only people who understand them, don’t really need to be taught, as they already know the material??!! I did expect to have to struggle a bit as I am by no means someone that knows much about the technical aspect of photography, my skill lies in the ‘oh look, that would make a cool picture *snap*” and move on school of picture taking. It’s kinda funny how almost every camera on the market these days has an auto feature, and EVERY expert photographer right off the bat says “don’t use the auto feature”. Then why in the Sam Hill did they put one on the camera?? I take pictures, I like the looks of some and I trash the others, I will probably never be anywhere near Ansel Adams (he was a famous photographer), and who knows if I’ll never sell much, but I like to learn stuff. Why can’t these edumacated folks speak in plain speak. You can explain all the technical aspects and do it using plain speak instead of technical mumbo jumbo, can’t ya? I mean how hard is it to say “the higher the f/stop number, the smaller opening on the aperture” this is something I can wrap my foggy brain around. I use lower f/stop numbers to blur the background and higher to make the background more clear, easy peasy. Anyways, I’m reading it grumbling all the way and I’m sure I will glean information from it, I just wish it wasn’t taught by a rocket scientist (joke). Maybe I’m too old and set in my ways to be taught, probably be better through trial and error.

Read something yesterday I found interesting: the Country music band from my youth “Alabama” was awarded over 200 awards over its career, and are the most successful music band in country music history! Who’d a thunk it? Told y’all I’m all over the place today 😬

Peach and I took a trip in my BRAND NEW FORD F150 😬 which we bought on the exact same day of the year that I got my previous one, to go see my sister, her husband, and my mom, who’s 85 (and ornery as ever) and we had an excellent time. We learned stuff about the truck and we learned we can’t drive as long as we used to without stopping to stretch the old bones (mine Peach you’re not old). And we learned that the next day is pretty much marked off for recuperation.

By the way, John Wayne, he was awesome.

Ok, I think I have bounced all around enough for one post. Peach and I truly wish you and yours all the blessings you want and need over the new year and hope to see you somewhere down the road…

By the way, anyone know a really good travel trailer for a couple, weighing under 6000lbs…

“Yes Peach, I know Peach, but I warned them it was gonna make no sense”

37 Years

Batman says:

Today 12/19 Peach and I have been married 37 years (yes to each other). I keep telling y’all she’s amazing cause for anyone to stick with my weirdness, grumpiness, from the wrong time-period-ness , you would have to be an amazing person. I love my Peach and I’m pretty sure she loves me so I expect we will keep at it a bit longer.

Started me thinking about longevity, being married to the same person for a long time used to be common, now days it seems to be more common to either never get married or get married several different times to several different people, I guess hoping to finally find the one you always agree and get along with, good luck with that. Being married is full of complications but if you go into it knowing there are going to be disagreements and arguments and other things that make you unsure it was right, then you will be willing to work through them. Today it seems people get married, are happy a short while, get divorced, and start the cycle over again. It’s tough enough on the adults that go through it, but it’s the kids that suffer the most. I believe it’s why too many folk get married and split up, they saw it when they were kids, and their parents had no “stick-to-it-ness” and split up, so why shouldn’t they when things don’t go the way they think they should.

Peach and I started off many years ago living with my parents (who eventually divorced) because we could not afford anything else. We scraped by and we had and have disagreements, but leaving each other?? Never was a thought, at least on my part (hope peach concurs) and we worked through our issues. 37 years later still going strong, not rich by far but we get by. We have something lots don’t, we have each other, and Peach is the light of my life and has been since day one.

I joke with the youngins I work with that I’ve been married longer than most of them have been alive. I would not trade one second of my life with Peach and hope she feels the same.

Y’all find the person you can’t stand to be away from, love, marry, stick with through everything, and your life will be full with no empty spots.

Ready for 37 more Peach? Peach?? Not funny!”

Rest

In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: — portion of Isaiah 30:15.

Peach here.

It’s been a long, hot summer, Y’all.

We took a few days off at the end of May, and it was nice. We enjoyed getting a few odds and ends done around the house. Hanging out. Whatnot. Resting up.

The world also blew up with regards to policing and race issues and social media became extremely non fun and toxic, the very same weekend.

We don’t watch the news. As in ever. Anything we want to know, we can find out on our phones without talking heads telling us what to think about it.

Of the two of us, Batman has the smarts to stay out of social media. And I’m SO grateful.

I’m good and hooked. 🙄 I have rules for boundaries though and stick to them! It helps a lot!

Social media is how I found out about all the bad stuff, weirdly in an account that I purposely keep only for inspiration, photography, family, praise and worship ministries, biblical teaching. (told ya social media became non fun!)

I’m not going to try to rehash the bad things that happened this summer. Just laying out a little corner of the world and how it impacted us.

I could see the storm coming to our country, our society, and there was no avoiding the wind, the rain, the lightening and the thunder.

It would impact us all, and if you are a law enforcement family, a lot.

There’s layers to it. It’s clear. And it’s jagged. All at the same time.

I was so distraught that weekend at what I was seeing. I worried how it would impact Batman and our little city. I remember I didn’t want him burdened with the knowledge of what I was seeing.

And so much more. My blood pressure was definitely up!

And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” — Mark 4:39.

The resulting unrest across the country had another side effect of causing people to realize they needed a certain kind of training which we (Batman) provide.

Being so busy all summer was good medicine for my mind’s tendency to be over wrought with troubles and their potential implications.

Potential. Oh, the trouble we can weave in our minds and hearts, that never comes to pass. But, our bodies bear the brunt of the stress dumping hormones for sure!

So grateful for so many good people we have gotten to meet and help. Like I tell Batman, I love to watch him work! 😍 getting out of the routine to do this, was super good for me. Gave me distance from the perceived problems of our society, and the opportunity to do what I think I do best. Help. That’s my favorite! Help my husband, help our clients, help our family.

With the added layer of the virus and the various ways citizens and government have complicated it, I have had oodles of opinions!! Gracious!! Nobody needs more opinions though. So every time I was tempted to ‘put my foot down’ on social media about it, I always felt this check in my spirit. To be still. To know that He is God. The famous verse from Psalm 46, He had firmly planted it in my heart at the end of last year, and impressed upon me to take it with me into the coming year, 2020.

The check in my spirit, restraining me, from spouting off opinions no one needed to hear from me about the virus, was “I don’t know yet what is really going on. I know the devil is at work. And so is our Father. I don’t want to speak about things I don’t understand yet. Wait and see. Trust God. Be gracious. Be prudent. Believe the best. God will work good out of all this, if we make room for Him.”

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.— Psalm 46:10.

You know, that verse above we often quote the first half, and rightly so. We need, we crave, that stillness of our hearts and minds and lives. And it comes with KNOWING He (alone) is God!

But, let’s not forget the one, two punch of the second half of the verse! He WILL BE exalted among the heathen, He WILL BE exalted in the earth!

That. That restores order to my mind, hope to my heart, peace to my life.

I still keep an eye on the news online. I see it. But, I don’t soak in it. I also take care to not aim to be right, score points, or any of the things that social media is designed to do, but rather to know facts, stand for truth, encourage the best, keep it to a minimum, where possible, build tiny bridges.

Batman and I have also learned the joy and wisdom of taking a week each month off from our side gig, to catch up on life and rest and just enjoy!!

This year is teaching me over and over the beauty of ‘resting’ in the care and Grace of our Lord. In so many ways, trust in Him. Make room for Him. Expect good from Him. It’s not really about the storm clouds, the wind or the lightening, it’s about Jesus, being the center of our focus!

Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls. — Matthew 11:29. The Amplified Bible.

Thanks for listening Y’all!! I’m praying we get all the ‘goody’ out of this crazy year, that He has for us all!

Batman’s Lamb Chops

At the risk of being accused of pilfering someone’s recipe (which actually I didn’t) and if it resembles yours I do apologize but it just popped into my frond (Stargate SG1 reference, means head) today while contemplating a way to cook lamb chops in a skillet.

Most important is the skillet, it has to be cast iron and it has to be LODGE (has to!) my momma used LODGE, my grand mom used LODGE, and I am sure on down the line my family used LODGE. They make the best cast iron anything. Not sure if I mentioned this or not USE LODGE CAST IRON.

Ok so let’s start with the recipe:

1/4 cup or so, freshly chopped rosemary

5 cloves garlic, minced

kosher salt

black pepper

2 lb.small lamb chops

1tbsp extra-virgin olive oil

Combine rosemary and garlic and season with salt and pepper. Press lamb chops into mixture on a plate and rest a couple minutes on a plate.

In a large skillet (use LODGE if I didn’t mention that earlier) over medium heat, heat oil, add lamb chops, cook 4-5 minutes per side (times vary) until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees. Let remove from skillet (LODGE) and let rest for 5 minutes, then give thanks to God for the meal, the day, and your life, then commence to consume with vigor.

You can if you wish heat the pan again to medium, stir in 1/2 cup white wine or chicken broth and de-glaze the skillet, stirring with a wooden spoon to get the brown yummy bits off the bottom (the French have a name for these bits, but I don’t remember it and if I did, I would probably misspell it) reduce the liquid by half stirring occasionally. Once reduced, add 2 TBSP butter and stir till thickens a bit and pour over chops as a pan sauce.

This recipe came about as a result of a grocery shopping trip with Peach (she lets me actually go inside the store sometimes) where we were trying to find an alternative meat to chicken (before you sputter it out, I know chicken is not meat, let it go). Pork chops are one choice, fish, turkey (seriously, don’t go there I know). We had stumbled on lamb chops about a month ago and so we got a couple more chops during this trip. If y’all know of other alternatives, let me know! Peach and I will try them (Wait!! Not liver, I know of no way on this good earth to cook liver that will make it taste good, sorry but ain’t gonna happen).

Food experiments have always been something I like doing, and this recipe is probably a combination of numerous dishes we have made over the years. If it sounds like your recipe, don’t write me and say bad things, I freely admit I could have taken parts from many recipes, but as far as I know, it’s all outta my noggin.

Sorry got off on a side road there…lamb, if not over cooked is really flavorful and tender and served with the right sides it can make an awesome supper. Peach and I had it with Brussels sprouts, cooked in butter, salt and pepper. The meal was outstanding, and the cost of the lamb was well within reason. Anyways, feel free to try it, add/subtract ingredients, see what you think. If you feel like it, share the recipes on here and we will try it.

Last things…if I didn’t mention it before use LODGE cast iron, and no I have no affiliation with LODGE cast iron, I just really believe they make the best cast iron stuff, AND it’s made here in the USA.

Bony Appletite😬

This is a repost of one I did last year I think

Find the Missing

Batman Says:

I’m not sure why, but I’m sure it is going on, most of the world turning a blind eye to “Human Trafficking”. Where are the outcry’s of rage? Where is the supposed “news media”, where are the family members of missing loved ones? Where are the Police? Where are the elected officials? Where for Gods sake are the red blooded American citizens who should be beating down the powers that be’s doors?

There are an estimated 800,000 missing children EVERY YEAR and these estimates are lowballed and do not include adults. There are evil people out there, snatching kids off the streets, playgrounds, and even yards, to sell as slaves and sex objects. It is not a new thing, it has been going on for ages, in the background, silently and stealthily, people are being snatched and disappear hourly.

Where is the outcry? It makes no sense, with all the families of the missing, there should be marching in the streets. Where is the so called news media, that says they have the public’s interest at heart in their “news” stories, one would think something like this would be front and center DAILY so people would see the severity of the problem and rise up to begin to stop it. They are not reporting it because it’s not sensational enough, there are no bad cops to show, nor politicians whose ideas they don’t agree with to bash, therefore they do not care. Folks to fix the news media is another story all by itself, but emailing and writing may help, I suggest something radical that I’m sure not a lot will do, but it would work, stop watching the news, stop watching that network, the one thing I do know these people want is ratings, without you they don’t have that, then they send out polls as to why and you can express your opinion and tell them why, but this is about the missing not the biased news.

This is no fantasy story, nor something happening only in lower class places, this is something that effects us all. Human traffickers care about only one thing, money, and to get money they need live bodies, boys, girls, men and women are ALL targets. We as people have GOT to make a stand and start thwarting these (and I won’t use foul language) lowest of life forms on the planet, by EVERY means available to us.

Here are a few tips:

Moms and Dads know where your kids are at all times

Watch your neighborhood, call the Police over suspicious people and / vehicles

Go places as groups not alone

Look at your surroundings as you move about, look up, not at your feet

Always tell someone where you are going to be, and when to expect you back

Let someone know your route you plan to take.

(Where it’s legal) Carry pepper spray, mace, or a stun gun, in your hand Anytime you are walking or running.

Park your car as close to the store you’re visiting as you can get, under a light if possible.

Do not park next to a van or truck, especially if it is between you and the store front.

When you leave the store Know where your vehicle is prior to wandering all over the lot.

(Where it’s legal) Walking to your vehicle have your pepper spray / mace/stun gun in your hand until you are in your car, with the door locked. Look at your car, does it look like it’s been disturbed? Is there a car or truck or even a car with dark tinted windows around it? If so, ask a store worker to walk you to your car.

There are hundreds of things we can do to make ourselves and our children and friends “hard targets” but it takes constant vigilance to do it.

As a Police Officer, I am appalled at the lack of concern, lack of public knowledge, lack of commitment by most anyone on this subject. It’s a disgrace and should not be allowed to stand.

Folks, if you know ANYTHING at all that could lead to finding even one missing person, one human trafficker, one location, or anything, I beg you to tell a Law Enforcement Officer, or anyone you can that may be able to help…if you’re afraid or don’t want to get involved, message us here privately and we will get the right people to the right places.

Together we can stop this horrible crime and maybe rescue someone’s loved one in the meantime.

Use the tips I posted 24 hours a day 7 days a week, pass them to your friends and family, pass the word around, information and diligence is key and together we can win.

Peach and I are both available to speak to groups about personal safety, just shoot us a message and we will see what we can come up with.

God bless you all and please be safe.

Your stun gun is fully charged Peach, is my hair sticking up?”

‘It Wasn’t His Child’

Peach says:

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name EMMANUEL, which being interpreted is, GOD WITH US.” — Matthew 1:20-23. ♥️♥️ So, this certain song came on, on my way to work Friday and it just touched my heart so much. Because on those back country roads, that I love to drive, and are a big part of who I am, I was able to really think about Jesus’ birth from Joseph and Mary’s point of view. Scripture tells us He was willing to come down from Heaven in human form and endure the cross for the coming victory. He thought you were worth it! He was ‘made poor’ so that we ‘might be made rich’. (2 Corinthians 8:9) He took an unfathomably hard road so that we would have a path to follow out and through and up and over, to a better place, a better way. I particularly realized something, as I listened to Trisha Yearwood sing this song, and thought of Mary’s unique and unlikely dilemma, and Joseph’s perdicament. Jesus, our Lord, had Himself born into something which was almost unheard of in that time, a single mom (unmarried and pregnant), who Joseph agreed to marry in spite of, in obedience to the Lord’s guidance, making Joseph a Step-Father. Jesus really walked in humble shoes to give us the advantage of the greatest hope! And to be able to show (I believe) our current generations, so many of whom come from either broken, blended or both, families, He’s been there. His Mom was talked about. His Dad was talked about. His family life was ‘complicated’, while we don’t ever want to treat His deity with a lack of reverence, we also do NOT want to miss out on His HUMANITY which He CHOSE to be born to FOR A PURPOSE.

John 10:10, — “10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I AM COME THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE LIFE, and that they might HAVE IT MORE ABUNDANTLY.”

I believe, like so many things He walked out for us, He walked this unique and challenging family life out,,so that we could have wholeness in all circumstances, with His GRACE!

He did without a lot, endured a lot, overcame a lot, for you and for me. This week I want to embrace the victory He purchased, the abundant life He wants for us, for you and for me, and it’s going to require I let go of the things that don’t matter and grab hold of the best things He has for me. It’s going to require more of my attention. More of my heart. He knows I’m weak. But, that just makes more room for Him to move in me!

God bless!

More Than Enough

“And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” Paul to the Corinthian Church. — 2 Corinthians 12:9.

Peach says:

Batman and I were/are both so blessed in this regard. It’s a gift that keeps giving every day, through the years. You remember little and big things they were an example of, they told you, you did together! So many ways!

To any Dads feeling not enough, somehow inadequate, or Mommas making it without the Dad, I would like to share with you something the Lord put on my heart on a Saturday night before Mother’s Day, about 17 (or there about) years ago.

I couldn’t sleep. And was realizing I was so flawed as a person, much less as a momma. And the Lord just started putting this very clear message of His Grace being what comes in, and always had, and fills in the gaps of my weak spots, my failures, my inabilities, and my ‘I don’t even know how-isms’. He comes in with His goodness, His all knowing, His Holy Spirit, and just adds His muchness, His more than enoughness, and makes everything work, makes it better, makes it work a purpose, that’s better than it would ever be in our aloneness and self sufficiency!

You are right. I am right. We are NOT enough, not by ourselves!! We are never meant to do it alone! He put everything in us that we need, HE BRINGS THE REST!! All we must do is bring Him in!

Pray, believe, and ENJOY the beautiful life, and lives (of your children, little and raised) He has given you!! —

And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9. HE IS ENOUGH!! Happy Father’s Day to you!!

P. S. I would like to ESPECIALLY thank our Batman for being a kind, generous hearted, courageous, hard working, determined, always learning, always teaching, man of integrity, faith and heart, and making us laugh all the time!! He always, always shows up, figures it out, and never holds your past or even your present against you!! Happy Father’s Day to the Best Daddy I could EVER IN A MILLION YEARS have chosen!!

Love, Peach!!

No Idea

Batman Says:

Truth be told, when I started this post, I had no idea what it was going to be about, still don’t but figure what the heck, I’ll keep pecking away and maybe something meaningful will come out of it, if not oh well I tried 😬

Perhaps it will be about something specific, Or not, prolly be just ramblings and jumbled together words who knows?

Peach and I watched movies this weekend just kinda chilled out and made the living room into a movie theater and enjoyed. We watched perhaps the (in my opinion) the greatest war movie of all time “The Longest Day” and then we watched “1917” another good movie that I’d never seen. We then watched “Spencer Confidential” followed by “6 Underground” and then an older movie, “V” and finished it off with “Mortal Combat” haha it was a total old movie weekend and we loved it. “The Longest Day” is from the era when movies were made “big” big music, big scenes, everything was more clear and pronounced. Scenes were held that extra bit longer, and the music was loud and powerful, I remember those from my childhood (we have discussed this, none of your business when that was). “1917” was based on a true story (“loosely”) and set in WWI times, it was well written I thought and kept Peach and I on our toes to the bitter end. “Spencer Confidential” was actually a very funny movie, action with humor (Needs a sequel). The same can be said for “6 Underground” which I believe was good enough to rate a sequel. “V” is the type of movie that makes you wonder, masterful performance by Hugo Weaving. “Mortal Combat”, all I can say is that it’s a movie me and my boys watched a bazillion times and it’s just fun, but makes a point about trust and friendship.

Moving on to different areas with this rambling, we have also been on the Ham radio a bit, mostly listening but talking a bit also. On 2 meters I listened to a conversation between older Hams and what sounded like a young boy and it was nice to know that he was interested and respectful and wanted to keep the sport going. I believe it’s time for Peach and I to contemplate studying together and upgrading to the highest rating, but it’s so technical based I can’t really wrap my mind around it yet. The advantage of upgrading is there aren’t any frequencies you can’t use. We always have fun studying (I apparently have a weird definition of fun) to get upgraded when we do, and cool thing is, there’s not time limit, we can take as long as we like before we decide to take the test. Anywho, when we are ready we will start studying and I’m sure we will eventually pass (I hope).

“Giggles”, we sometimes get them like children and cannot contain the laughter. Not sure we should try and contain it as it always makes us feel better.

“Amazon”, yep we fall into the trap of getting stuff from Amazon cause it’s easy and quick, not all the time, but sometimes.

“Reading books”, actual hold in your hand physically turn the page, smell the paper and ink, books. Peach and I have tons of these and we read them off and on to break up the monotony of sitting on the recliner couch staring at a television screen all day and half the night. Yeah we have the Kindle things, but sometimes you gotta feel the real thing.

Weird how you wind up doing one job all your life, even if it’s not what u expected. I’ve had tons of jobs, finally settled on a career, and have loved it, but it is not the career or job I thought I would have. I always had a fascination with the ocean and it’s inhabitants, and thought that would be my career, marine biologist or something like that. Not meant to be but that’s ok, I still read about it, explore the possibilities.

“Selling pictures”, photography is another thing Peach and I have in common. We take the pictures, sort through them, pick the ones we like best and put them on our website PeachandBatman@smugmug.com and hope one day someone will see something they like and buy it. Not a “have to have” but a nice to have 😬. Peach, she writes, and she writes things that can teach Gods word, and if I can ever convince her how good she really is, others will get to experience Gods word through her writings and teachings. She does not know how good she is at it, and how if she would stick with it, her following would grow and her teaching of Gods word would reach so many people who need to hear it. I poke and prod her in the hopes she will buckle down and focus on it, maybe just 2 hours every couple of days, and within 6 months she will see I was right (won’t admit it, but she will see it). Peach has a way of taking Gods word and putting it into context with what is going on, and why we need it more now than ever. She never changes it to fit “her” interpretation, she teaches it as it’s written, and I think that is where so many go wrong with teaching Gods word, they try and interpret it in their way. Anywho, I shall endeavor to keep annoying her until she gives in and starts really doing it, I can at times, be very annoying, if I put my mind to it 😬.

Contemplating future posts…honestly I don’t sit down and think of things to write about, as you can tell by this ramble, but I do hope it doesn’t bore to many people. Well even if it does that maybe they will get a good nap falling asleep reading it 😬.

“Still waiting on that post that starts you off 🍑, we are ready to learn”

Listening

Batman Says:

Sitting out on the deck early this morning before most of this part of the world wakes up, I closed my eyes and just listened. Ever do that? Just listen? Interesting what the result may be if you do. Because I was outdoors, and Peach and I live out in the country (not deep in the woods away from all sounds of man like I wish but, still country folk) I get to hear nature, sometimes mans noise butts in, but mainly nature. Early like this, there are still night creatures about but also the day crews are waking up and moving about. It’s a peaceful time, and the amount of nature that could be heard (probably could hear more, but for years of teaching shooting numbing my hearing 😳) night hawks, whip-or-wills (Chuck-will’s-widow more often) early morning Cardinals, Mocking birds and of course, the always present sound of roosters crowing, Horned owls, Barred owls, and Screech owls… you get the idea. All add their voices at one time or another, together or separate, frequent or rarely, and just listening to them relaxes me.

There are at times no sounds at all, it’s creepy still, the time of morning or night when as Sherlock Holmes put it “the powers of evil are exalted”. Times like these some get nervous or frightened, but as Don Williams sang “Nothing makes a sound in the night like the wind does, but you’re not afraid if you’re washed in the blood like I was”. Night sounds (early morning, too) can stir up fears in people, an involuntary reaction stemming back to the days when it was kill or be killed, and wild carnivores roamed everywhere, it also stems from man’s evilness to one another where certain elements prey on weaker victims. But in the here and now, the sounds I hear are stealthy, and then some are musical, neither cause fear as I have and still hunt the evil most refuse to acknowledge exists and fear little in doing so (“Fear profits no man” ..13th Warrior). Settling more in my comfy chair I hear leaves rustle, probably a mouse or mole looking for edible yummies, as I look up thru the live oak leaves to the crystal clear ink black sky with its brilliant sparkly lights (them is stars in case you didn’t get it) flashing colorful lights from far away. You can almost hear the trees talking to the wind and each other (probably wondering why we get to move around when they can’t) with soft subtle voices that you either believe in or don’t. If you believe, you can quietly hear the soft voices on the wind, maybe not understand them but you can hear them if you listen. Most refuse to hear those quiet voices from things in nature, especially those they hear when it is dark, and they do it out of fears. Fears of the unknown, fears others may not have heard it and would ridicule or belittle them, fears they would lose friendships or companions.

“Fear does not stop death it stops Life and worrying does not take away tomorrow’s troubles it takes away today’s Peace”

If you must fear, the fear should be that you have let God down by not following his word. (Squirrel ran by…apologies)

Listening teaches us so much more than talking does, and if most people would open their ears and close their mouths, they would learn tons and there would be way less conflict. So I sit, when I can, be it at home or at work (rare but I do sometimes get the chance) and I listen to what the world is trying to tell me. I hear the sunrise, I hear the wind, I hear Gods creations great and small. I don’t always understand them, but I hear them all, each has its own unique voice, some booming some barely perceptible. None of these would I be able to hear if all I did was talk. The gift of silence is often underestimated, but having the ability to let someone talk or vent, without interjecting, is a rare ability that more people need. Take the time to shut up and just listen, I bet you hear a lot and maybe learn to appreciate silence more.

“What’s that Peach? Sorry wasn’t listening” 😬
