God’s Word is Alive!

F9A0D633-762F-46B1-BD33-4E0001462FC4

Some words in the Bible just stand out to you in a particular way. They are more ‘alive’ to you than others, (though all His Word is alive). One year the Lord put these words of His in my heart in a particular way…and they still are…maybe even more so.0123323E-28F1-4CAA-9006-F2E4E9E60338

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.” Isaiah 40:1. It’s like my favorite thing to see/hear/think/say these words!

Recently the Lord has reminded me, and refreshed them to me! And they just jump in my heart and run around when I see them now!! A friend from the past taught me that is a ‘rhema’ (pronounced RAY-muh) word. It’s when a specific portion of the Word of God is particularly, personally alive for YOU! THOSE words, those special words are TREASURES, JEWELS 💎💎 He has bestowed, entrusted to your care!! Let them have sway in your life, your heart, your mind!! You will be so glad you did!!

What’s behind me

Batman says:

“What’s behind me doesn’t matter” interesting quote I saw on a movie when I was young (never you mind when that was) about a race car driver I think. He was talking about cars he passed as he ripped off the rear view mirror, but if we think about it, it fits life.We should not spend time worrying about what’s behind us, or ‘in the past’ because we cannot change it. We learn from our past and continually strive to improve and move forward. If we don’t, we are likely to live miserable ‘I should have’ lives in which all we can do is constantly think about how we should have or could have done something different or better.

Remembering past parts of our lives is normal and even healthy (no I’m by no means one of those head doctors) I think, it should help us learn about ourselves and how we have changed.

Dwelling (no not the place you live) on the past cannot be healthy, it tends to hold us back and keeps us from moving forward to get better and stronger. By all means, remember the past, relish the memories of childhood and youth, all the fun things, as well as the fun things that you did and happened. Then, look forward to where you are now and see how much you have grown, and how the things in the past (behind you) don’t really matter in the long run. Another quote I saw or heard in a movie a long time ago “son, remember this, God doesn’t care who you were, he cares about who you are now”.

See? “What’s behind me, doesn’t matter”

Don’t Believe ALL the Bad News You Hear! (only some of it) and HAPPY Father’s Day!!

Peach says: First of all, I want to SHOUT OUT to my Batman for EVERY DAY WITHOUT FAIL rising to the occasion to be a father to our sons. No matter the weariness or obstacles, no matter, even once, what he ‘felt like’, he has every day, every moment rallied to the occasion to provide, set the example, and love unconditionally. He has loved with grace and with gruffness and with discipline (because love does that, read your Bible 😉) and with humor! He has loved with his presence and with his provision, and with his WORKThank You, Lord for such a man of Yours for my very own husband to do parenting, and all of life with!! May he be extra blessed today and throughout this coming year!!! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!!

And now, some Father’s Day observations. I work in retail and today I saw such an interesting phenomena. Over and over into our store came families, with Daddy, most were young families, but there were a few older families.  Every one of them happy to be there humbly and graciously providing the cute clothes, sunglasses, shoes, and bathing suits for their kids.

Might not sound like much to you, but on the ONE day out of the year designated to honor and celebrate our Dads, I think it speaks volumes to their quality of charachter to be out shoping and providing, doing the fun and the ‘extra’ for their children and their wives.

It’s all too common to hear such divisive talk between our two genders. Male and female. But, don’t believe everything you hear in the news and social media. We sure do need a bunch more JESUS, but there are STILL good people out there everywhere you go!! Look around, and you will see them! Every time I could remember to tell one of the Dads ‘Happy Father’s Day’, they lit up like a Christmas Tree! Such a simple thing!!

Father God, thank You for being our Daddy! Thank You for making a way for us to be adopted into Your family!! Thank You for the GIFT 🎁 of Family!!! Please do Your work today, this week and this year in our families!! Strengthen, realign, heal, give clear vision and purpose, let there be proper order and sweetness of life in our families all across our land, transform America one life, one relationship, one family at a time!! And let all the Daddies rise up!! In Jesus’ Name! Amen!!

Closed on Sunday

Batman says:

Three words, profound implications. Closed on Sunday, where did this habit go? More proof that the masses of people are getting farther and farther from Gods Law and walking in Grace.

I remember the time when it was more common Not to be able to find a shop open on Sunday than it was to find one open. People would gather at Church or just gather someplace for fellowship and then return to their homes and be a family for the rest of the day. Now it’s more common for no one to be home on Sunday because everyone is out shopping or at a movie or eating out. We are being driven by the need to make money, spend money, and go have fun, instead of the need to give God his due and follow his rules and keep Sunday as the Sabbath and do no work. Seeing the sign “Closed on Sunday” on more places of business would return us to a better time and place.

Society today is failing in all aspects and mainly in religion. I truly believe if we more closely followed (or at least tried to) the law as written in the Bible, the world would be a better place.

“Closed on Sunday”

What a concept, thousands of years old, wise well ahead of its time.

Television

Batman says:

Remember when television was wholesome? You were rarely embarrassed to watch it? Or scared to death of some mass murderer on the screen spraying bits and blood everywhere?

This is apparently a thing of the distant past, because everywhere you look on television there is extreme violence, sex, and gross stuff these days.

Sitting around today Peach and I tried to find SOMETHING to watch that wasn’t obscene, we failed epically because unless your into the things mentioned previously, there really isn’t much choice anymore.

I have resolved myself to going back to what we used to do when we were much younger, and that’s reading books. Television for us ADULTS doesn’t exist anymore, and the escapism we found in watching when it was less grotesque, is gone. Yep I know what the younger folks will say, and honestly, I don’t care, my blog can have my opinion, ain’t trying to change anyone else’s mind.

I believe Peach and I will revert to real books, kindles, and the Bible. In these we are transported to places the mind can create, we are lifted above our seemingly endless hardships, and taken to better places. All without the chance of being embarrassed by sex shows, or horrified by gore. We will probably not renew any tv subscriptions, and don’t think we will miss them. Now I know this won’t cause any heart ache or financial catastrophes for anyone, and that’s fine. I only know that we will sleep better, enjoy the days better, take walks, bike rides and trips better, all because we give up being glued to a screen that publishes such sewer that we are mostly embarrassed to have to watch.

Anyways, television? Hasn’t been television since the early 90’s, it became a sewer and is slowly dragging the public down the toilet with it using its content as the snare.

I’d be willing to bet, if you really thought about it, you would agree life would be better if there were no television or at least if it weren’t allowed to show the crap they are allowed to show these days.

…if your looking for me, I’ll be reading a book, don’t try to reach me through a television add…

Range day

Batman says:

Today was range day with two clients, both who are new to shooting. Lively personalities these ladies are and great to have as students. Neither is over confident nor are they to meek, both are curious to learn and willing to try new things.

As an NRA Instructor, amongst other shooting instruction certifications, it is always a pleasure to teach students like these two and there are benefits not related to shooting.

We are outdoors in God’s world enjoying all the interesting things he created. We are moving, therefore we are getting the benefit of exercise. I dont teach standing still and shooting once the student has the basics down. I teach to be as hard to hit as you can, this means movement while your shooting.

These two ladies are just beginning their training and already are pretty skilled at target shooting, so the rest won’t be hard for them to pick up.

I teach the shooting skills because it’s becoming a lost art, and it gets Peach and I outdoors, and we get exercise and meet the new people we want to help.

Anyways, go shooting it’s fun and it’s exercise and it’s fun… did I mention it’s fun?

Midnights

Batman says:

Those of us who work shift work, all know midnight shift, 11-7, 6-6, or whatever combination you work. Midnights are tiresome and strain a relationship when it’s new. But if it’s meant to be, the relationship will last, if we work at it and even prosper.

Blessed as I am with Peach, we have lasted well over 30 years, 24 of which I have rotated on and off of midnight shift. Hadn’t always been easy, missing birthdays and holidays and family gatherings, but with Peach’s understanding, we have made a great life.

Midnights is when the no so nice people are out, most decent people are home and not roaming the streets. Dealing with these people wears on a person and over the years one becomes hardened. This is when you need a ‘Peach’ who, when you come home, is there waiting, always willing to ‘fix breakfast’ even at 5 a.m. There to remind you why you do what you do and to help ‘soften’ you back up to the world.

Midnights are tough, but with your own ‘Peach’ it gets easier every day

Lawn Mower Exercise

Batman says:

At the end of last mowing season (actually 2/3rds through) our riding mower had a malfunction. That’s putting it mildly, the mower deck basically fell apart. Now this is the second riding mower that this has happened to, the first being a used mower my brother gave me when he bought one of this new fangled ‘zero-turn’ mowers. So, here I was towards the end of the mowing season and no lawn mower, no problem says I, we will just buy a new mower deck and all will be well. I did some quick checking and found that a new deck was close to $700, welp, that’s a show stopper, I have to many things planned this year to spend that kind of money on something I am only probably use one more time this year….

Fast forward, it’s June 2018 and I still haven’t cut my grass! Started worrying I was going to lose my truck in the jungle out there and every time I let the dogs out it was like hide and seek. I started to wonder what else was lurking out there (don’t tell Peach that I had seen two snakes in the past month, she dislikes them and I’m sure somehow it would be my fault), so I decided I was going to do something about the grass.

Oh! That’s right, no mower deck, remember? “We will get it over the winter, no worries” were the words I distinctly remember myself saying. Crud! Hmmm now what? Then I start remembering when I was a tad (means same as a bit) younger, the only lawn mower was a walk behind push mower (sometimes self propelled). As I started remembering cutting grass with one of these I also had memories of how much better shape I was in. But then the lazy kicks back in and I tell Peach that we are just gonna have to break down and buy the deck so we can cut grass. As we are having this discussion I am in my recliner looking at self propelled mowers half heartedly and mentioning them to Peach and relaying the story of when I was younger and better shape blah blah..to my astonishment Peach says ‘I’ve been thinking about one of those at least until we can get the other fixed’. Well then that’s a fine kettle of fish I’ve flopped into now, so I start looking at prices hoping that it wouldn’t be worth it, it was, new deck almost $700, walk behind, less than $300, and with the walk behind there are so many health benefits, 1 your walking, 2 your using arms to steer and steady, 3 stopping and moving things requires bending and lifting…. (one other benefit will be mentioned later) I think you can see where I’m going by now.

Off to Lowe’s we go (10% discount for veterans) get the new mower, and back home in less than an hour. Assemble the mower (unfold handle and put two screws in it to hold it) put the supplied oil in it, gas’er up and 5 pulls later (would have been one if I had read the directions completely and known to hold the handle down) she’s a running and ready to cut grass. Give it a few test laps and such and in about an hour the worst part was cut, and Peach wanted a turn. So show her the basics and she cranks it up and off she goes cutting the bigger but more open front yard. Hour later she’s done, yards done.

We got the yard mowed mostly, we were more active for those two hours than we would normally, walking, twisting, bending, pushing and pulling. All the exercises we try to do in our routines plus more cardio. The mower was less than half what we would have spent to fix the other and provided so many more benefits.

Oh yeah, the other benefit? Getting to watch my Pretty Girl Peach cut grass in shorts 🙂

Anyone wanna buy a riding mower…needs a lil work

Needs vs Wants

DD344CFD-8DF5-416A-9969-414A38D21E46

Peach says: Last week I had to stop by the store, (probably for coffee or something basic like that). While there, I thought, ‘What else am I out of that I could use this opportunity to pick it up?’. So, naturally I chose miniature dark chocolates, because every girl needs her random chocolate, right? Of course! Next morning, I’m showering for work and reach for my (MUCH needed) conditioner and remember with chagrin, that I had meant to add that to my necessaries list for my recent store run. I had to get a pair of scissors  and cut the empty bottle open just to get by until my NEXT run to the store!! Groan!

I told my husband, that I had just been to the store the day before, and had gotten chocolate, which of course I didn’t TRULY need!! I NEEDED my conditioner! I only WANTED the chocolate!! I was much annoyed at the trick my wants had perpetrated over my needs!! That I had hoodwinked myself! It was an eye opening epiphany to what goes on in large and small degrees in all of our lives as individuals, communities and nations.

We often pay more attention to our what our flesh (or sinful human nature) wants, than the part of us that is still learning to submit to God’s Holy Spirit within us, than what we really truly need, what is more of a point of wisdom, necessity, or practicality, and what the Holy Spirit would guide us to. Galatians 5 talks about what walking according to the Spirit will result in, what it looks like, and lists the results of such living, (also known as ‘fruits’, which points to these fruits naturally showing up in our lives, for fruit cannot not be compelled!) I find this most encouraging! Why? It reminds us we are the branches and He is the Vine! He is working His good out in us, as we abide in Him! My favorite fruit? Self control or discipline!  A beautiful, wonderful fruit of the Holy Spirit living in you and empowering you for a good, a fruitful, a sweet and satisfying life.

There is so much profit, benefit, that comes from living a disciplined life, contented in the Lord, knowing good is being wrought inside of you, and in your life, well ordered, focused and according to guiding principles, goals and plans. It makes room for large and FREE and satisfying, FUN living.  “Now The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (emancipation from bondage, true freedom).” 2 Corinthians 3:17.ECE89A2F-B6EB-430A-8758-7BE763C10095

It might seem a simple thing, but all giant, rooted and grounded things start low, start small. And I don’t want to live a small, hobbled life according to my wants. I want to live life according to my needs, according to wisdom, according to a Holy Spirit led, practicality that leads to wide open spaces of grace and freedom! I don’t want to be the ‘Buy now, pay later’ kind of person! I want to be the ‘I saved this up, so now is the right time to make this purchase!’. I want to be that person that eats healthy and exercises enough that the occasional dessert and meal with the ‘extras’ won’t hurt me! That goes to bed at a decent time so I can get a rare form start on the next day!

EA7A962D-44F5-4759-A0F3-962E3843947E

This push mower is great example of Need vs Want! We want to replace our riding lawn mower deck, for about $700. But, this is not something we really need to do right now. We could. But, we choose to do it later, at a more practical, opportune time. Our yard has need for a riding and a push mower. So, we decided get a good push mower, (self-propelled! It is a DREAM to use!) for now, at less than half the cost, and much benefit to our yard! Need vs want!! We end up better off in the long run! Come late July we will replace the deck, when we are good and ready! And we will be better equipped, all the way around, by being smart in planning our money and equipping our yard!

The yard looks good! Our account looks good, and I’m feeling pretty fruity!! 🙂

People

Batman says:

Here in my home town we have several homeless people, they can be seen pretty much everywhere downtown during the day pan handling for money, but they are still people. They are dirty, rude, sometimes aggressive (mainly with each other) but people none the less, they live, breathe, hope, and dream I’m sure of a better life.

And we also have a self named, self proclaimed ‘transient watch’ group. Their sole mission in life seems to be to follow these homeless people around day and night (stalking & harassing), waiting on them to violate a City ordinance or violate a law, then call the police. If the police don’t IMMEDIATELY show up and handle the situation the way this group thinks it should be handled, the take to facecrook (Facebook for those that couldn’t make the connection) and rant and rave about how the police aren’t doing anything to help with the transient population. This group is comprised of fine upstanding citizens (that was sarcasm folks) who believe they are making a difference (they aren’t) and they believe they will somehow make the police do what they want (they won’t) if they keep at it.

Some enterprising lawyer is eventually going to find one of these ‘transients’ and show them the stalking law, or some civil harassment law, and they are going to take this ‘transient watch group’ to task. And because of all the documented calls from this group (who’s main complainer doesn’t even live in the town) to the police, are public record, they have made the evidence for any such case that much easier to obtain.

There are proponents for both sides, me I’m kinda in the middle, I know the homeless (most of them anyways) don’t want to live that way, but they don’t really try and change it. They can be an eyesore in a tourist town, but to be honest, of the two groups, I’ll take the homeless over the high and mighty ‘transient watch’ group who have forgotten what Christian charity and just plain good human beings are supposed to act like.
