Linner

Batman says:

Linner (lunch/dinner for the uneducated) is a kinda in between meal for working families. Peach and I love to (at least she says she loves to…sometimes I’m not sure) cook together in the kitchen. Linner is our meal we make when one or the other may not have the night off, we try and make it kinda healthy (not foolin anyone it’s healthy or not we’re gonna eat it) when we can and if not I will not lose and sleep. Today it was shrimp drenched in eggs and milk, dredged in ‘Jiffy Muffin’ mix and fried at 325 till golden brown and delicious along with Brussel sprouts cooked in salt and pepper and when done topped with a half stick of butter and allowed to melt. The muffin mix adds a sweet and crispy texture and flavor to the shrimp and the butter of course makes Brussel sprouts melt in your mouth. Total time, 15 minutes?? And freakin yummy..

Take time to experiment, and don’t forget Linner, the unused meal…don’t forget the dishes Peach 🙂

Bob Seger

72AC3B69-2AE5-42A7-A4B6-AF6666A50996.jpegWinter of 1981, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. I was 16 and in a Bob Segar, Alabama, Bette Midler mode. Alabama was all me. I remember when I heard them for the first time. Music is so powerful, it just resonated with me. Bob Seger and Bette Midler were my parents jams, that I took as my own. Played all three records over and over. Fortunately my parents work schedule allowed me plenty of time to turn the music up to 9 o’clock and rock the house out!

In spring of 1982 I met Batman, and my music jam moved on to .38 Special and Billy Squiers. Because of how the river of life flowed I did not hear one of the Bob Seger songs probably since that winter, it wasn’t a big air play song on the radio. Little Victories. With the passage of time my brain had boiled down this song into a few crystallized lines, chiefly, Little Victories, it was a common thought to me to always celebrate the tiny victories often overlooked on the way to ultimate success! Let there be joy in the journey by learning to find the dew in the grass as joy comes in the morning.

Something brought it to mind yesterday and I looked it up, first the lyrics. They surprised me by their sheer lonesomeness. Then I listened to the song, maybe for the first time since winter of 1981. So good. I still get why I liked his music so much. And I could still get the lines that were the ones that stood out to my youthful mind way back then.

“As you step out in the night take a lesson from the trees
Watch the way they learn to bend with each breeze
Little victories
Everytime you make it through
It’s another little victory
Day by day minute by minute
Little victories”

Priorities

Peach says: There comes a certain time where we realize the brevity of life, the fragility of it, the prescious gift that it is. We become aware of the fact the we only have a certain number of Christmases or 4th of July Independence Day celebrations. We begin to make choices on a daily basis, to hopefully, with the Grace of God and the Holy Spirit guiding us, make choices that will help us make the most constructive impact for our loved ones, our community, the Kingdom of God, and the world. Use that extra few hours to go visit your parents, enjoy old memories, listen to their wisdom. Use that afternoon to help your sibling, or your Uncle. Take that long put off anniversary trip! Go to church, you can sleep any time! Watch TV? Or write? Read FB or read your Bible? Or your new Jentzen Franklin book? Or how about, do you once again pick up that other shift at work? Maybe that’s right. Or instead do you take that day with your spouse and go take pictures, and drop in on your son who lives out of town, and go to dinner? You only have so many days. Use them to do things that last. To know the Lord more, to love on others, to serve, to build.

A major verse in our life this year is from Psalm 90:12 — “12 So teach us to number our days, that we may get us a heart of wisdom”. To number as used in the verse means to set, to assign, to appoint, to tell. In other words, we have a role to play, God given authority to purposefully set, assign, appoint, to tell (declare) what our given days shall prioritize, according to His wisdom at work in us! So, go! Live, love, serve, have faith! Believe! He is good! Taste and see His mercy endures forever!

1 + 1 = 1

E7A607BB-6B29-4014-A425-26ED8E54BD1ASays Peach: Nope! That’s not Common Core!! It’s the beautiful mystery of the mathematic principal of marriage!! One of the reasons we are doing this blog, is we have been extremely blessed to enjoy a whole lot of love, life and years together. Wouldn’t have been possible without Jesus. Plain and simple and no apologies for saying so.  And in a world where marriage is becoming increasingly rare and increasingly put off until later, we hope to occasionally throw out some insight on the benefits of sticking together, being forgiving, being kind to each other, having each other’s backs, being creative at loving and serving one another, being each other’s advocate, cheer leader, comic support! Marriage will never not be a sacred gift from God, to help us and equip us to to do this thing called life!! “Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9
